MotoVault is an independently operated software project.
Who operates MotoVault
MotoVault is an independently operated software project, offered to riders across the European Union. If you have any question about how your information is handled, [email protected] is the right place to ask.
Information we collect
MotoVault collects the information needed to run your account and the features you use.
- Account information: your email address and name, plus a password if you sign up directly, or the basic profile Google shares with us if you use Google sign in.
- Information about your motorcycles and their history: the specifications, maintenance, fuel, parts and reminders you record.
- Files and content you choose to upload, like photos and documents.
- Route data you choose to import. GPX files can reveal places you visit often, like your home or workplace.
- Technical information needed for login, security and keeping the service reliable. This covers things like your IP address and sign in activity.
- Any message you send to [email protected].
How we use this information
MotoVault stores the motorcycle information and files that users choose to add to their account so the features they ask for can work. We display it back to the account that owns it, keep it secure and let you export or delete it.
MotoVault does not analyse the motorcycles or files you upload for advertising, profiling or automated decision making. We send account verification, password reset and email-change security messages when they are needed, along with maintenance schedule, routine, reminder and document-expiry notifications you have chosen to enable. We do not send newsletters or marketing emails. We may also use technical logs to keep the service secure and stop abuse.
Our legal basis for processing
Running your account and the features you use is necessary to deliver the service you asked for. Keeping the service secure and preventing abuse is a legitimate interest we balance against your rights. Google sign in only happens when you choose it. MotoVault does not currently send marketing messages, so consent is not used as a basis for any processing today.
Service providers
MotoVault uses trusted hosting, storage, authentication and email service providers where necessary to operate the service. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google verifies your identity for us. Depending on the selected map and terrain settings, map content is requested directly from OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap and Mapterhorn; if you select the Satellite or Satellite Hybrid map appearance, satellite imagery is requested directly from Esri.
International transfers
Some of the providers we rely on may process information outside your own country, and in some cases outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for this kind of transfer.
How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account exists and for as long as we reasonably need it for the purposes described here. We have not yet fixed exact retention periods for every type of information, and we will not state one until it is genuinely in place.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time, with your password or, for a Google account, by confirming your email. This permanently removes your vehicles and their records. Files you uploaded are queued for removal shortly afterwards. Deleted information may briefly remain in routine backups until those backups are rotated out.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, and you can object to or ask us to restrict some processing. Most of this you can already do inside MotoVault. For anything else, write to [email protected]. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to your national data protection authority.
Automated decisions
MotoVault does not use automated decision making or profiling that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. Reminders are a simple calculation based on the dates you enter, not a hidden analysis of your data.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Passwords are stored securely, and uploaded files are only reachable by their owner. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise a breach will never happen, but we work to reduce that risk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as MotoVault changes. We will update the date at the top of this page whenever we do.
